Background of the Study

Workforce diversity refers to the presence of employees from different cultural, ethnic, gender, and professional backgrounds within an organization. In recent years, the importance of workforce diversity has gained widespread recognition due to its potential to enhance innovation, creativity, and employee collaboration (Adegboye & Olawale, 2024). A diverse workforce brings a variety of perspectives and ideas, which can lead to improved problem-solving and decision-making. However, effective collaboration among a diverse group of employees requires the establishment of an inclusive culture that embraces differences and promotes mutual respect (Ogunyemi et al., 2023).

Airtel Nigeria, a leading telecommunications company in the country, has embraced workforce diversity as part of its organizational strategy. With its operations in Yobe State, where the socio-cultural landscape is complex and diverse, Airtel has the opportunity to leverage diversity to improve its services and foster innovation. However, the success of workforce diversity is contingent upon the organization’s ability to foster collaboration among employees from diverse backgrounds (Ogunjimi & Adebayo, 2023). This study aims to explore how workforce diversity affects employee collaboration at Airtel Nigeria in Yobe State, examining the strategies employed by the company to create an inclusive work environment and enhance teamwork.
